Notes for Deborah Simmons: She made her home at Thedford's Ford a hospital during the Battle of Chickamauga. Buckner's Corps christened her "the Mother of Chickamauga" because she nursed the wounded soldiers with a mother's care. Confederate Veterans, Sept 1898, Vol VI #9. Notes for Anna Elizabeth Thedford: She married Bryant Wright Henry on June 26, 1859, Catoosa Co GA, and they had a daughter, Ida Henry, born February 5, 1863 Walker Co GA, and died January 2, 1940 Gwinnett Co GA. Ida Henry married Terrell E. Simmons. Notes for William A. Thedford: He was a private in 2nd Co D, 1st GA Inf CSA. He was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga and is buried at Peavine Baptist Church Cemetery, Walker Co GA. Notes for James A. Polk Thedford: He was a private in 2nd Co D, 1st GA Inf CSA. He married Jane E. Hunt on January 10, 1867 Catoosa Co GA. Jane was born April 16, 1838 and died February 23, 1901. They had a daughter, Alice Lula Thedford born December 22, 1868 and died April 11, 1939 GA. They are all buried at the Peavine Baptist Church Cemetery, Rock Springs, Walker Co GA. Notes for Bruce E. S. Thedford: He married Mary Emily Walker and they had three daughters: Fannie Mae, Aileen and Ruth. Notes for John H. Thedford: He married Mary and they had three sons: John born 1874, Oscar born 1876 and Simmons born 1879. |
