| Notes: George Reeves was granted 384 acres of land in Fincastle County VA (now Grayson County) lying on the west side of the New River by order of Council on December 16, 1773, being part of the Loyal Company's Grant. George Reeves served as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary from Montgomery Co VA. He took the Oath of Allegiance in 1777. Appointed Lieutenant in McDonald's Company on April 3, 1782. The appraisal of his personal estate included two slaves, Mingo and Phillis, a 4 year old mare, sheep, 3 cows with calves and 4 cows without calves, 1 steer, pewter dishes, feather beds, furniture, churn, 1 slate looking glass, 1 iron potrack, 1 man's saddle and 1 woman's saddle, haystacks and geese. Notes for Lucy Reeves: She married David Cox Jr., the son of David Cox and Margaret Ann McGowan. They had two sons: George Reeves Cox and John R. Cox. Notes for Prudence Reeves: She married Andrew Cox, the son of David Cox and Margaret Ann McGowan. Notes for Mary (Polly) Ann Reeves: She married Joseph Bain Doughton. They had five children: Jane Irena Doughton who married David Cox; Charles Horton Doughton who married Margaret Cox; Gracey Doughton who married Samuel Phipps; Charity Ann Doughton who married John Cox McGimsey; and James Doughton who married Ann Lavender. Notes for Susannah Reeves: She married William Toliver. |
